Softly floral, rosy, green, and slightly grassy, palmarosa essential oil is one of the more surprising fragrances in the aromatherapy world. Despite its rose-like scent and flower-inspired name, palmarosa does not come from roses at all. It is distilled from a tall aromatic grass, Cymbopogon martini, a relative of lemongrass and citronella.

Its characteristic fragrance comes largely from geraniol, a naturally occurring aromatic alcohol also found in roses, geranium, and several other fragrant plants. 🌹 Why Does Palmarosa Smell Like Roses?

The answer is largely geraniol.

Geraniol is a fragrant monoterpene alcohol with a sweet, rosy aroma.

That is promising laboratory research.

It does not establish palmarosa as a treatment for inflammatory diseases in people.
